Vultures Row: Natalie Maines Does it Again

Natalie Maines Does it Again

It seems that there is a band out there that some people have heard of that made some comment that some fans took as an insult. The band then got upset and decried their right to free speech had been violated because said fans decided that they could not continue to support a group that did not reflect their own core values.

Flash forward a few years and this group is on tour again and apparently still bitter about their loss of stature in the entertainment industry. But in a valiant effort to get back to the top they are trying to re-endure themselves to their core constituents, country music fans, that is right, red state, meat eating gun owning, beer swilling country music fans, not New York upper west side wine sipping pseudo-intellectual America hating French loving want-a-be hippies, the group consented to an interview where the lead singer someone named Natalie Maines said the following:

"The entire country may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity
for patriotism," Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. "Why do you have to be a
patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and
like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don't see why people care
about patriotism."
And Miss Maines, I don’t see why people care about you. If you can not understand people pride in their country, if you can not understand that people are proud to be Americans then you really should not insult them.

The entire country does not disagree with you Miss Maines. There are plenty of people out there who for one reason or another do not love America and do not feel a sense of patriotism. That is fine. They, like you, have a right to say what you want to, just as your former fans have a right to express their feelings. A word of business advise though if you want to grow your core market, you really should not alienate it. If they like NASCAR, Apple pie, Baseball and the USA, you really should not piss them off and then get upset that they do not buy your CDs and go to your concerts.

No one is censoring you, you are free to keep saying anything you like, but know this Miss Maines; Actions have consequences.
