In a political speech on Saturday in a church, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., answered the question "I see a Democratic Party afraid to say they're Democrats, who voted for the war in Iraq and voted for tax cuts for the wealthy, why should I remain a Democrat?"
By stating "The Democrats at times have lost their way, we are trying to decide what our core values are."
Let me repeat that
"The Democrats at times have lost their way, we are trying to decide what our core values are."
This is the key problem that democrats are facing today. A lot of Americans do not see the Democratic Party as having any values, and do not see them as having any direction. The democrats used to stand for something, but in the last eight years they have only been against the republicans. It has been said that when you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything. The Democratic Party (the party, not the rank and file) seems more than happy to embrace all of the radical Bush Haters for nothing other than the money they are willing to pay into the coffers. This has led to a very few being able to speak for the whole party and it makes it seem that the party endorses the radicals.
I know the Michael Moore is not the Democratic Party any more than Ann Coulter is the Republican Party, but when the left allows the likes of him to speak for them, it is the perception that they are calling the shots. Ad din the radical environmentalists, the anti-war movement, the tax the rich bunch and then the all republican’s are evil group and the message is convoluted. It seems that the only message they can get out is Bush is evil.
Success is building something, not tearing down your opponents. The level of hate in politics is largely due to the left attacking those on the right on a personal level. The left will then cry foul when the right looks into allegation of improper conduct of any one in the left. The double standard is clear enough for a blind person to see.
It is acceptable to destroy the character of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas because of their views and opinions, but when Clinton committed a crime (perjury) it was the right attacking a man over personal matters and it was all part of a vast rightwing conspiracy.
Tell America what you can do FOR us, not how bad the other guys are to us. Give us a vision, give us a plan. Until you do, we are forced to see and treat you as a spoiled child.
